Abstract
Getting lost to find yourself. A game that involves the risk of loss and yet also announces the pleasure of reconquest. Dying and then being reborn. The work of the Colombian anthropologist Enrique Vargas and the Teatro de Los Sentidos is part of the great strand of experimental and research theater with the aim of knowing in a broader and more in-depth way the possibilities of human feeling, especially thanks to the memory of the body that is stimulated through the awakening of the less used senses, bringing back memories, emotions and moods. Vargas says that his theater comes from the way he enjoyed himself as a child. From that childhood spent in the countryside, when he played hide and seek with his brother, on a coffee farm. Usually, when we think of the spectator, we imagine a person who pays for a ticket, enters a theater to attend a show that arouses emotion and identification but that does not involve physical contact or immersion in the heart of representation. The spectator of the Teatro de Los Sentidos, on the other hand, lives sensory experiences that make him the undisputed protagonist of the theatrical process in progress. It is he who chooses whether or not to walk a given path, to touch or not to touch an object, to meet or not the actors within the labyrinth willing to play with him. In this thesis we will analyze the figure of Enrique Vargas, the Teatro de Los Sentidos and its evolution, and we will analyze a series of shows in particular those made in Italy.
In particular, the programme will focus on the productions of the Teatro de Los Sentidos: *El Hilo de Ariadna* and *Oráculos* (Italian premiere: Castello Aldobrandesco – Festival Toscana delle Culture, Arcidosso (GR), 14 July 1996). La Memoria del vino (produced by Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione; in co-production with Bologna 2000 – European City of Culture; Italian premiere: Sferisterio – Bologna 2000 European City of Culture, Bologna, 21 July 2000), *Pequeños ejercicios para el buen morir* (Italian premiere: Il Funaro, Pistoia, 27 June 2014), and other works created specifically for Palermo and Naples.
